Oak Grove Swim & Tennis Club offers swim lessons for members and non-members alike. Our long time instructor, Tom Abbott, retired this year. Our new instructor is Genevieve Blasius - an experienced swim teacher, Bay Area native, and a Northgate neighbor. Her guiding principles for the swim school will be: water safety, proper swim technique, and making the water fun!

Lessons run throughout the summer. Group lessons of 2-4 students occur in two week sessions, are 20-30 minutes long, and take place Monday through Thursday, from 8:00 AM to noon. Private lessons are scheduled on Fridays, as is a weekly Aqua Aerobics class.

An overview of each type of class is below. For more detailed information, please see Genevieve's class schedule, or email lessons@oakgroveswim.com or genevieve.blasius@gmail.com.

Group Lessons

Group lessons are great for building overall swimming skills and giving swimmers a chance to learn from one another, with some built in play time to promote a love of the water.

There will be five two-week sessions available beginning on June 12th, running until August 18th. The group sessions are for swimmers aged 2-15. The sessions are conducted Monday through Thursday between 8:00 AM and noon, and are scheduled based on ability.

  • Session 1 - June 12th-23rd
  • Session 2 - June 26th-July 7th
  • Session 3 - July 10th-21st
  • Session 4 - July 24th-August 4th
  • Session 5 - August 7th-August 18th

Younger classes for Minnows, Angelfish, and Barracudas are 2-3 students for 20 minutes. The cost per two-week session is $85 for OGSC members, and $115 for non-members.

Older classes for Sharks and Dolphins are 3-4 students for 30 minutes. The cost per two-week session is $100 for OGSC members and $130 for non-members.

For information about what skills are required before starting a specific class, please seen Genevieve's class schedule.

Private Lessons

If someone is struggling to master a particular skill, or they are seeking further stroke refinement, or even if they simply desire more intensive one-on-one attentions, private lessons are invaluable in rapid progression of swimming skills. And, private lessons have NO age limit; so, parents that have always wanted to learn to swim well enough to incorporate laps into their fitness routine, and athletes that are seeking to improve triathlon times, or work around existing injuries are encouraged to sign up!

Lessons are on Friday mornings between 8:00 AM and noon.

Two 20-minute private lessons cost $50 for OGSC members ($25 per lesson) and $70 for non-members ($35 per lesson).

Aqua Aerobics

Aqua aerobics is cardiovascular aerobic activity performed in water to music. It utilizes the natural buoyancy and resistance of the water against your body to provide low-impact resistance training. It is beneficial for exercising large muscle groups, increasing your heart rate, building muscle tone and working the lungs, while still being easy on the joints. If you want to get a vigorous workout with low to no risk on joints, while having fun grooving to popular music, this is the workout for you!

The weekly, 45 minute Aqua Aerobics class happens each Friday at 10:30 AM, as long as there are at least 6 participants.

8 Aqua Aerobics classes costs $100 for OGSC members, and $120 for non-members.
